Circadian Clocks

Your brain has a central clock, which responds to light, sunlight specifically, and this is called your “master” pacemaker.  Your heart keeps up a regular rhythmic beat and it does this without your having to think about it, via a specialized cluster of cells embedded within the heart tissue, keeping a regular signal of firing to regulate your heartbeat.  Similarly your brain, has a specialized cluster of neurons within your hypothalamus, which keeps another kind of rhythm for your body.  A rhythm that helps you synchronize almost all aspects of your physiology and in contrast to your heart, your brain’s pacemaker regulates itself via photons from the sun.
