MASTER CLOCK

You have a specialized cluster of neurons in your brain is known as your master clock.  These neurons respond to sunlight and are set by the amount of light entering through special light sensors in your eyes. A specialized light sensor is located in your retina, that responds to the blue wavelength of sunlight.  Mother nature intended you to “see” this blue light of the sun to help you keep track of time. It’s almost like having a sundial in your brain

LIGHT AND THE BRAIN

Get healthy amounts of natural sunlight, and stay away from digital light at night.  Avoid confusing the clock in your brain with faulty signals – dim light during the day (yikes! that means your office) and artificial light at night (which means too many LEDs during the evening!)

SUNLIGHT AND AVOIDING CANCER

Science News from December 7th, 2017 reports that “Our body has an internal biological or ‘circadian’ clock, which cycles daily and is synchronized with solar time. New research done in mice suggests that it can help suppress cancer.”

MELATONIN BOOST

You help your natural anticancer hormone of melatonin boost its release at night by having a healthy circadian clock.

Find time to get bright daylight hours light sensibly, and use only necessary evening light once night sets in.  This will keep your circadian clock well timed and in tune to protect you from illness.

PROTECTIVE HABITS

Try getting at least 30 minutes of play time during the early part of the day, and use blue blocking screens for your computers and devices.  We now know why switching to a lark lifestyle rather than a night owl can provide a greater defense against cancer, through protecting your natural melatonin secretion and getting that master clock in your brain well timed!
